2005/2006 Season review
After an outstanding 6 Nations in which the Welsh Team won the Grand Slam in 2005, the Welsh public are looking forward to the Autumn Internationals with great anticipation. New Zealand are the Tri Nations Champions but were lucky to beat Wales in 2004 – Joe Rokocoko being their saviour, South Africa have a very strong side at present though …
2005 British and Irish Lions – Relying on past reputations
I was astounded to read that Sir Clive Woodward said that this tour was the toughest ever faced by the Lions in New Zealand. I wonder what Dr Jack Mathews, who had to sail to New Zealand and pay a hefty deposit before they played a game, thought of that comment! Phil Bennett would have had a wry smile thinking …

France 18 Wales 24 – Loyal fans get just reward
An amazing match of 2 very different halves. During the first half Wales were not in the match. The French were totally dominant in all phases whilst the Welsh were insecure on their own ball and missing tackles all over the place. However, the tremendous Welsh supporters kept the spirit of the welsh team going and at 15 – 3 …
Italy 8 Wales 38 Fast, open play
Wales travelled to Italy with some degree of apprehension following the fine win against England at Cardiff. All the players, supporters and management team were aware that Wales had lost on their previous trip to Rome 2 years previously. However, the game resulted in a surprisingly easy win for Wales, especially considering how close a game the Italians had given …
Norman Gale – 1940 to 2005
The death this week of our dear friend Norman Gale has cast a dark shadow over this weekend’s International. Norman had a massive heart attack at his home on Monday, and never recovered. His death has surprised and shaken all rugby players and supporters around the world. Norman was immensely popular and respected throughout rugby and even though his appearance …
Wales 11 England 9 – Comment from JPR
What an atmosphere! What a result! Wales at last turned their potential into a victory, though it wasn’t pretty. However, having played well against the big guns over the last 18 months and just lost, most welsh supporters would settle for a win without playing that well. The pre-match atmosphere inside and outside the Millennium stadium was fantastic. Bryn Terfil, …
Harry Bowcott – 1907 to 2004
Harry Bowcott, the former British and Irish Lions outside half, has died at the age of 97. He was the oldest surviving Welsh rugby international and one of our first Welsh Rugby Honda Hall of Fame heroes. Born in Cardiff, Bowcott made his debut for Wales in the victory over Scotland at Swansea in 1929 and went on to captain …
Comment from Brian Price – Autumn Internationals
The Autumn Internationals had two aims 1.) to increase much needed revenue for the WRU and 2.) to give Mike Ruddock the opportunity to get to know his players and their abilities before setting out to improve on last years dismal performance in the 6 Nations Tournament. I believe on both counts there has been a measure of success. David …
