Honda Hall of Fame 2004

The third instalment of the Honda Hall of Fame series saw the event move to Cardiff’s newest and biggest Hotel - the Holland House. Over 400 people packed their function hall, in what was to date the biggest event held at the hotel.

The event was held on September 23rd 2004 to once again honour Wales’ greatest players – this time celebrating the best Outside Halves in Welsh Rugby history. Five Greats were inducted into the Hall of Fame – WRIFPA President Cliff Morgan, David Watkins, Barry John, Phil Bennett and Jonathan Davies
The event, hosted by the voice of the 2003 World Cup John Taylor, featured entertainment by Welsh Rugby International Players Benevolent Association Trustee Max Boyce. WRFIPA Chairman Mervyn Davies and Peter Karrie also added to the entertainment on the night.

The Hall of Fame Trophies were handed over by Honda representatives Mark Davies and Martin Sanders, who had the pleasure in announcing an extension of the Honda deal with WRFIPA for a further three dinners. They were supported by guest of honour Australian World Cup winner Michael Lynagh, while many other Welsh Internationals past and present were there to pay homage to the Hall of Fame inductees.

The WRFIPA even found time to honour the only Welsh Olympian in Athens, swimmer David Davis who was presented with a glass rugby ball by Chairman Mervyn Davis.   All money raised on the night went to the Welsh Rugby International Players Benevolent Association, which is currently in the process of spending upwards of £20,000 helping Roy Bergiers, Paul Knight and Jeff Young.
