Jeff Young dies

Age 63

It is with great sadness that members of WREX learn of the death of one of the most popular colleagues and friends, Jeff Young, after a long illness.

Jeff, a British Lion and Welsh International of some distinction, was also a very loyal clubman at Horrogate, Bridgend and London Welsh.

Not only was he a player of great talent but was extremely popular with all his fellow players on the field. He was highly respected through the rugby world and will be sorely missed.

The former Wales and British Lions Hooker played an integral part at the start of the golden era in Welsh Rugby gaining 23 caps between 1968 - 1973, and he went on to become the WRU rugby Technical director.

Jeff was the first person helped by the Welsh Rugby International Players Benevolent Association, and although we were continually updated on his condition, and knew of his long illness, his death has still come as a great shock to us all.

WREX members send their condolences to Pat and family at this very sad time.
