Honda Hall of Fame 2002

Once the former player’s organisation was up and running one of the first things we discussed was honouring the greats that have graced the field in red jersey of Wales.  

We were very fortunate that our first sponsor Honda once again threw their support behind us and the Honda Hall of fame concept was established.  

A committee would select players to be inaugurated into the hall of fame and each year we would a dinner to raise funds for our charity and to honour the Legends of Welsh Rugby.  

For our first hall fame we chose to honour greats from each decade:

  • The Twenties and Thirties Harry Bowcott andVivian Jenkins  
  • The Forties and Fifties Bleddyn Williams and Jack Matthews.  
  • The Sixties Clive Rowlands  
  • The Sixties and Seventies Delme Thomas  
  • The Seventies Gareth Edwards  
  • The Eighties Ieuan Evans  
  • The Nineties Neil Jenkins.    

We were delighted that to present the awards were our President Cliff Morgan, First Minister  Rhodri Morgan, Geoff Matthews from our Sponsors Honda and Glanmor Griffiths of the WRU.
