Bryn Meredith
Born in Cwmbran and attended West Mon School, Pontypool. Played for Welsh Schools in 1949. First senior rugby for Devonport Services then St Lukes where he starred in 1953 team that scored > 1000pts in relatively short season.
Played for Devon and SW Counties vs 1953/4 All Blacks. Propped with Lyn Davies hooking vs 1953 NZ - Harold Davies other prop. First Welsh cap vs Ireland 1954 - made 34 apps - then Welsh forward record. Missed only 2 internationals for bereavement and for illness. 3 Lions tours (1955, 1959 and 1962).

Captained Newport (1958/9 &1961/2), Monmouthshire, Devon, Royal Navy, Combined Services, Barbarians, Wales and Lions. Superb striker and excelled in rucks/mauls. Very mobile - Npt won 6 of first 9 Snelling 7s (R/ U in other 3) with Meredith. Played one season for L Welsh when teaching at St Albans but returned to star in victory vs 1957 Wallabies.
Next season captained Newport (P42 W29 L7 D6) to their 7th Welsh Championship. BBC Wales Personality 1961. Joined committee on retiring
