Played for Neath, Llanelli, Wales (32 matches 1985-97)

Also Rugby League for Widnes, Warrington, Canterbury, Bulldogs, Wales and Great Britain at Rugby League.

Despite being ignored at youth level by Wales, Jonathan soon rocketed to senior honours after brilliant play for Neath, being tremendously speedy. he led his club in 1985-87. After transferring to Llanelli he continued for Wales, skippering them and playing in the first World Cup of 1987. His 13 drop goals is a Welsh record, but he also scored and made exciting tries.

In 1989 he turned to Widnes Rugby League, gaining Great Britain honours and again captaining his country. He became player of the year in Rugby League and also had a fine spell with Canterbury Bulldogs in Australia.

He received an MBE in 1995 for services to Rugby League, but returned to Union and was capped again for Wales afer joining Cardiff.
